Jazz drummer to play with sons of other greats*

When the brilliant drummer Jack DeJohnette returns to the Capital District on Saturday to headline the 13th annual Albany Riverfront Jazz Festival, there will be an unusual bond among the group.

The drummer will be performing at Jennings Landing at the Corning Preserve with Ravi Coltrane on saxophone and Matt Garrison on bass. DeJohnette played briefly in the 1960s with Ravi’s father, music icon John Coltrane. He also played a Coltrane gig with Jimmy Garrison, Matt’s dad and an outstanding bass player who came to fame in the Coltrane band.
