Christie Dashiell

PROJECTS:

NAACP Image Award winning and two-time GRAMMY® nominated vocalist and composer Christie Dashiell lives effortlessly at the crossroads of jazz, rhythm and blues, gospel, and soul. Recently signed to Candid Records, Dashiell looks forward to the release of a new album in Spring 2027.

Washington, DC-born and North Carolina-raised, Dashiell was born into a deeply rooted musical lineage as the daughter of renowned jazz bassist and educator Carroll Dashiell Jr., Christie was inspired from an early age by watching her father tour and teach. She honed her exceptional craft at Howard University – where she sang with the premier vocal jazz ensemble Afro Blue and competed on NBC’s The Sing-Off and later earned her degree from the Manhattan School of Music. Along the way, her talent earned her dual DownBeat Student Music Awards and a spot as a semifinalist in the prestigious 2015 Thelonious Monk Institute International Jazz Vocals Competition.

Renowned for her breathtaking improvisational prowess and rich, crystal-clear tone, Dashiell has established herself as one of the most compelling voices in modern music. Her 2016 debut solo album, Time All Mine, landed on Billboard’s Jazz charts and earned a spot on JazzTimes’ Top 50 Critics' Poll. In 2023, she elevated her artistry even further with her independently released sophomore album, Journey in Black – a Chamber Music America-funded masterpiece exploring freedom, legacy, and joy alongside a stellar band and creative guidance from NEA Jazz Master Dianne Reeves. The album earned Dashiell her first GRAMMY® nomination for Best Jazz Vocal Album in 2025. She followed this success by co-leading WE INSIST 2025! with her mentor, NEA Jazz Master Terri Lyne Carrington. Their genre-bending reimagining of Max Roach's Freedom Now Suite secured Dashiell a second consecutive GRAMMY® nomination in 2026 and an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Jazz Album.

Dashiell has captivated audiences on world-renowned stages, including North Sea Jazz Festival, Newport Jazz Festival, Marciac Jazz Festival, and Monterey Jazz Festival plus esteemed venues including Jazz at Lincoln Center Shanghai, Tokyo’s Bunkamura Orchard Hall and Bepop Club in Buenos Aires. In addition to leading her own quartet, she has collaborated with luminaries such as Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, Marquis Hill, Sweet Honey in the Rock, Adam Blackstone, and Cyrus Chestnut. When she is not touring or recording new music, Dashiell shares her wealth of knowledge with the next generation of musicians, serving on the faculties of Howard University and The University of the District of Columbia.
