Christie Dashiell

PROJECTS:

NAACP Image Award winning and two-time GRAMMY® nominated vocalist and composer Christie Dashiell lives at the musical crossroads of jazz, rhythm and blues, gospel and soul. A graduate of Howard University and the

Manhattan School of Music, she has become known for

her improvisational prowess and effortlessly rich and clear

tone. Growing up in a musical household, her lineage is

deeply rooted. It was by watching her father, jazz bassist

and educator Carroll Dashiell, Jr, tour and teach that she

was inspired to pursue her passion for music.

She has been seen on NBC’s “The Sing-Off” with vocal

ensemble Afro Blue, and can be heard on countless

recordings including, Wynton Marsalis’ “The Ever Fonky

Lowdown.” In 2016, Dashiell released her critically

acclaimed debut solo album, Time All Mine, placing her in

a group of emerging artists on the rise. It was her

independently released sophomore album, Journey in

Black, that garnered her first GRAMMY® nomination for

Best Jazz Vocal Album in 2025. Recently, Dashiell

released, WE INSIST 2025! with her mentor, co-leader and

NEA Jazz master Terri Lyne Carrington - a timely and

genre-bending reimagining of Max Roach, Abbey Lincoln

and Oscar Brown Jr’s Freedom Now Suite. The album

landed her a second GRAMMY® nomination in 2026 for

Best Jazz Vocal Album as well as an NAACP Image

Award for Outstanding Jazz Album.

In addition to touring with her own quartet, Dashiell has

worked with countless artists including long-time

collaborator Marquis Hill, vocal ensemble Sweet Honey in

the Rock, bassist and producer Adam Blackstone and

acclaimed pianist Cyrus Chestnut. She has been seen in

concert on various national and international stages

namely, Jazz at Lincoln Center Shanghai, Marciac Jazz

Festival, and Bunkamura Orchard Hall in Tokyo. In

addition to performing and recording, Dashiell is on

faculty at Howard University, The New School and The

University of the District of Columbia.

“[Journey to Black is] one of the most beautiful vocalist albums I have heard in recent years...an album that can already be considered a ‘Classic’.”
