Album review: Playing for Change’s ‘Live’

Several members of Playing for Change, the international collective that turned the R&B classic “Stand by Me” into an Internet phenomenon, finally gathered for a concert tour last year. Cameras were rolling, crowds were cheering and a few notable artists – Toots Hibbert and Ziggy Marley, among them – were eagerly endorsing the ensemble’s inspirational music and message during guest appearances. No surprises there.
Well, maybe one.
In addition to lending their celebrity and support to PFC’s “Peace Through Music” initiative, the star recruits actually have something musically significant to contribute to “Live,” the group’s recent CD/DVD.
