Nonesuch Releases Brad Mehldau’s “Live in Marciac” January 11; Available for Pre-Order Now in Nonesuch Store

Nonesuch Records releases Brad Mehldau’s Live in Marciac—a two CD, one DVD live album of a solo performance—on January 11, 2011. The recording was made at the Jazz in Marciac festival in France and includes original tunes by Mehldau as well as interpretations of songs by Kurt Cobain, Lennon/McCartney, Cole Porter, Radiohead, and others. The album is now available for pre-order here in the Nonesuch Store. As always, purchases from the Nonesuch Store include a high-quality digital download of the music at no additional charge, available release day.

Brad Mehldau’s acclaimed new work Highway Rider receives its New York premiere in Carnegie Hall’s Zankel Hall tonight. Mehldau is joined by The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra conducted by Scott Yoo along with saxophonist Joshua Redman, percussionists Jeff Ballard and Matt Chamberlain, and bassist Larry Grenadier. The musicians gave the piece its world premiere at the Walker Arts Center in Minneapolis over the weekend and will give the European premiere at the Barbican in London this Saturday with Yoo leading the Britten Sinfonia, followed by performances in Brussels, Luxembourg, Köln, Heidelberg, Vienna, and Paris. The next US performance is at Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles this January. Highway Rider is Mehldau’s most recent Nonesuch release, which New York Times music critic Nate Chinen calls “this year’s most luxurious jazz release, a double album with Romantic underpinnings and a stealth foothold in classic rock.”
