Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation Announces 2011-2012 American Masterpieces and Mid Atlantic Tours Rosters
Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation has announced the rosters for its 2011-2012 American Masterpieces and Mid Atlantic Tours programs. Fee support is available to presenters in Delaware, District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, U.S. Virgin Islands and West Virginia booking the following artists for engagements taking place between July 1, 2011 and August 31, 2012.
Among the artists selected for American Masterpieces tour support is Anat Cohen:
An established bandleader and prolific composer, Anat Cohen moves easily between jazz, classical music, Brazilian choro, Argentine tango, and multiple Afro-Cuban styles. Her versatile, original talent has made her one of the primary voices of her generation on both the tenor saxophone and clarinet since arriving in New York in 1999. Cohen topped the Rising Star-Clarinet category in DownBeat Magazine’s critic’s poll in both 2007 and 2008, and placed prominently in a total of four categories including Rising Star Jazz Artist. The Jazz Journalists Association named her Clarinetist of the Year in 2007 through 2010 – the first time in the history of the awards that an artist has earned top clarinet honors four years running. Cohen has performed for audiences in New York’s Village Vanguard, Jazz Standard, Iridium, and The Jazz Gallery, San Francisco’s Yoshi’s, and Boston’s Regattabar. Appearances also include the Chicago, JVC, North Sea, Monterey, and Montreal jazz festivals.
“Cohen has emerged as one of the brightest, most original young instrumentalists in jazz […] [she] has expanded the vocabulary of jazz with a distinctive accent of her own.” ― The Washington Post
