Bassist/Singer Esperanza Spalding Simmers in Stoughton

An Esperanza Spalding performance is a sensual experience – for her, and for everyone else lucky enough to be in the room with her.

Holding her upright bass as close as a lover and tilting her head back, eyes closed, Spalding was a picture of pleasure on Sunday night at the Stoughton Opera House.

The 25-year-old jazz singer and bassist from Portland, Ore. moved seamlessly from one tune to the next, performing songs that sounded improvised on the spot but for the ease with which her band (Chamber Music Society) moved with her.
