Despite facing a 5.5 magnitude earthquake in Ottawa earlier in the day, the 30th annual Ottawa International Jazz Festival opened with a free concert last night featuring Street Drum Corps presents BANG! and Gil Scott-Heron. Denis Armstrong of the Ottawa Sun describes BANG!‘s performance: “When they weren’t pounding the life out of their assortment of plastic drums, they were employing grinders and other assorted power tools to create industrial dance music that was also visually striking.”
