Quincy musician takes home another Grammy

Quincy resident Danilo Pérez has added another Grammy Award to his trophy shelf, winning a statue for his work with The Wayne Shorter Quartet. The group won Best Jazz Instrumental Album for the three-disc Emanon at the 61st Grammy Award ceremony on Sunday.

The group is led by jazz legend and composer Wayne Shorter with Pérez on piano, John Patitucci on bass and Brian Blade on drums.

‘I feel grateful and honored for this recognition because this award represents a triumph to creativity, loyalty and friendship,’ said Pérez, who’s been part of the quartet for 20 years.

Winning the the Grammy was emotional, he said. During the ceremony ‘tears came to our eyes because we were a family all together with our mentor Wayne Shorter celebrating this triumph in life,’ Pérez said.
