Often, tribute shows can get bogged down. Musicians on stage worry about hitting every note, sounding exactly like the famous recordings and miss the mark completely. Not true with Jazz 100. What pianist Danilo Pérez, a Panama native, has assembled is much more than a faithful rendition of old favorites: he takes the music of Dizzy, Ella, Mongo, and Monk, and creates something new, blending in his own laid-back Afro-Cuban style, and the results are something truly magical.

Pérez has gathered an all-star line-up for this tour: vibrant and creative saxophonist Chris Potter, lyrical trumpeter Avishai Cohen, technically adventurous trombonist Wycliffe Gordon, first-call bassist Ben Street, transcendent drummer Adam Cruz, and master percussionist Roman Diaz. And added to all ‘that,’ was the smooth, sultry sounds of vocalist Lizz Wright.
