Watch: Chris Thile & Brad Mehldau Perform “Scarlet Town” on “A Prairie Home Companion”

Mandolinist Chris Thile, the new host of the beloved public radio show A Prairie Home Companion, welcomed label mate pianist Brad Mehldau to the show as a special guest this past weekend. They performed two songs from their new, self-titled debut duo album: Mehldau’s own tune “The Watcher” and the David Rawlings / Gillian Welch song “Scarlet Town.” You can watch their performance of the latter below.

Mehldau also contributes a solo improvisation to the episode. Also on the program, broadcast from its home base, the Fitzgerald Theater in Saint Paul, Minnesota, on Saturday, were the band Lucius, comedian Tom Papa, a special Valentine’s Day tune from Thile for parents of small children, and more.
