Village Vanguard Turns 75 - Lovano's Us Five Celebrates

< Back

Tuesday February 23, 2010

So what happened on February 23rd, 1935?

Max Gordon opened the doors to the Village Vanguard! And 75 years later, they’re still in the same spot; the basement of 178 7th Avenue South.

The week of February 23rd – 28th, 2010 marks the club’s 75th ANNIVERSARY!

And to honor the occasion, Joe Lovano lights up the bandstand with his group “Us Five” featuring James Weidman (piano), Esperanza Spalding (bass), Otis Brown III (drums), Francisco Mela (drums).
