The two albums (released simultaneously) put on display the remarkable breadth of Monte’s musicianship, as singer, multi-instrumentalist, composer, producer & musicologist. They also feature an impressive array of guest collaborators, including David Byrne, Philip Glass, Seu Jorge, Carlinhos Brown & Arnaldo Antunes.
Universo Ao Meu Redor is the Brazilian singer’s first-ever recording to focus entirely on the great Brazilian tradition of Samba. Monte dug deep into the history of the music to find Samba songs dating back to the 1940s that have been passed along orally but never recorded. Placing her discoveries alongside new songs of her own, she’s created a modern-day Samba masterpiece.
Infinito Particular is a contemporary Brazilian Pop record for which Monte went back to unfinished songs from over the course of her 15 years of songwriting, bringing 13 new compositions to life with the help of songwriting partners both old & new.
