Malian singer, songwriter and guitarist Rokia Traore is one of the biggest draws at this year’s Womad music festival in Wiltshire. Her blend of traditional African rhythms and instruments like the balafon (wooden percussion) and ngoni (African lute) with Western sounds from her electric guitar, have marked her out as one of Africa’s most innovative and acclaimed musicians. She tells the BBC’s Ruth Barnes that playing Womad is ‘‘a dream come true’‘.
