PHJB to perform at Pete Seeger's 90th Birthday

A who’s who of musicians will come together to celebrate Pete Seeger’s 90th birthday at Madison Square Garden on Sunday, May 3. Billed as The Clearwater Concert: Creating the Next Generation of Environmental Leaders, the star-studded show will focus on ensemble renditions of musical treasures inspired by Pete Seeger. The event’s marquee acts include the likes of Bruce Springsteen, Dave Matthews, Eddie Vedder, Ani DiFranco, Emmylou Harris, Tom Morello, Kris Kristofferson, Taj Mahal and John Mellencamp, as well as folk icons like Joan Baez, Richie Havens, Ramblin’ Jack Elliott and Arlo Guthrie. The event will also feature a number of musicians from the jamband realm, including Michael Franti, Bela Fleck, Tony Trischka, Ben Harper, Billy Nershi, Keller Williams, Warren Haynes, Abigail Washburn and the Sparrow Quartet and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band with Del McCoury. In addition, the celebration will highlight Seeger’s influence on the modern indie rock movement with appearances by Ben Bridwell (Band of Horses) and Patterson Hood (Drive-By Truckers).

Modern folk troubadours Steve Earle, Billy Bragg and Bruce Cockburn will also appear on the impressive bill, which will be rounded out by Tom Paxton, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Larry Long, Mike & Ruthy Merenda, Native American Indian Cultural Alliance, NYC Labor Chorus, Bernice Johnson Reagon, Scarlet Moore, Silvio Rodriguez, Tao Rodriguez-Seeger, Guy Davis, Tom Chapin, Jay Ungar & Molly Mason, Tommy Sands, Juanes, Kate & Anna McGarrigle and Toshi Reagon.
