A note about the song from Becca Stevens:
“Walking in the Air” was written by composer Howard Blake for Dianne Jackson’s 1982 animated film of Raymond Briggs’ The Snowman. The story relates the adventures of a young boy, and a snowman who has come to life. In the second part of the story, the boy and the snowman fly to the North Pole. “Walking in the Air” is the theme for that journey. This has always been one of my favorite winter-themed songs, and one that I wouldn’t mind hearing more in this season. In 2009, I attempted to arrange a new cover song for every month of our then monthly gig at the 55 Bar, NYC. For December, our last cover tune of that year, I chose “Walking in the Air”. Writing the arrangement, I heard harmonies for four voices, two female and two male. I asked Gretchen Parlato to debut it with the band. The blend of her voice with mine, Chris’ and Liam’s was perfect. She joined us at Sear Sound a few months later to record “Walking in the Air” as a bonus track, and “No More” for the 2011 release of Becca Stevens Band’s Weightless.
