Baaba Maal in South Africa for Africa Day celebrations

Senegalese legend Baaba Maal will be in Johannesburg for the Africa Day concert.

Indisputably one of the African continents most important performers, Maal will be joined on stage by guitarist and vocalist Habib Koite of Mali.

Other notable appearances for the 48th anniversary, Africa Day are Olufemi from Nigeria, Namibia’s Elemotho, South Africa’s very own hip-hop maestro Tumi and the Volume, pioneer of the electrifying Durban Sound, Professor, and the soulful Uju.

For the Africa Day show, Maal will deliver a special acoustic performance, giving audiences an exciting opportunity to witness the diversity of his showmanship.

Africa Day marks the establishment of the Organization of African Unity (now known as the African Union) on May 25 1963. The organization’s objectives were to promote unity between African nations, and provide a support mechanism for liberation movements of colonized African nations.

Chaired by then emperor of Ethiopia, Haile Selassie, the opening of the OAU was attended by the 32 African states that had attained independence at that time.
