Oscar Castro-Neves Symphony

A Tribute to Antonio Carlos Jobim:
Antonio Carlos Jobim is, without question the most known composer of Brazil. His songs are performed in virtually every corner of the globe. Songs like “Girl from Ipanema,” “Desafinado,” “Quiet nights of quiet stars”, and “One note samba“ are required part of the repertoire of any jazz group or singer, anywhere. This concert looks at Jobim’s most known songs and some of his lesser known gems, adding some personal anecdotes and stories of his life. One of the seminal composers of the Bossa Nova movement, Oscar was a personal friend of Jobim, having collaborated with him as an arranger and guitar player for both films and records.

Bossa Nova – The First 50 years:

Taking advantage of an all star core band with orchestra we will look at the music of the early Bossa Nova composers like Antonio Carlos Jobim, Oscar Castro-Neves, Roberto Menescal and Carlos Lyra and also of the music of the next generations of writers and singers from Brazil, like Milton Nascimento, Caetano Veloso, Ivan Lins, Dory Caymmi and many others.

Bossa Nova Looks at the Great American Song Book:
A romantic and vibrant tribute at the great American composers like George Gershwin, Irving Berlin, Cole Porter and also more contemporary ones like Stevie Wonder, all through the eyes of the Brazilian guitar, a great rhythm section plus lush orchestral arrangements will add the icing on this delicious cake.

The Chicago Post

Castro-Neves is incapable of creating a dull moment, but that is an understatement: He is only capable of generating rhythmic, harmonic and melodic joy.
