Grammy Award winning Dave Holland joins the next generation of masters, Jason Moran, Chris Potter, and Eric Harland in the Overtone Quartet – one of the most exhilarating jazz ensembles of our time. A collective of virtuosos, they are all talented innovators with a shared respect for the legacy of creative freedom. All four are acclaimed jazz veterans, earning awards and critical praise as players, bandleaders and composers. They each contribute their own compositions to the Overtone Quartet, as All About Jazz says, “this group has no band-leader, and instead functions as a collective, coming together around the shared goals of challenging each other to greater and more subtle composition and performance.”

From his beginnings with Miles Davis to his acclaimed ensembles of today, bassist Dave Holland has one of the most celebrated legacies in jazz. The Boston Globe calls Holland “a master bassist and bandleader, one of the most sophisticated composers and arrangers in the jazz world.”

An innovator in the mold of Thelonious Monk, pianist and composer Jason Moran has been described as “a startlingly gifted pianist with a relentless thirst for experimentation” (Los Angeles Times).

Grammy Award nominated saxophonist Chris Potter has limitless creativity and a vibrant sense of swing characterize Potter’s music prompting critics, musicians, and fans to cite him as the finest saxophonist of his generation.

Currently one of the most in-demand and praised jazz drummers in the world, Eric Harland has recorded over thirty albums and has toured the world over. His work is a study in orchestral drumming.

REVIEWS

The Overtone Quartet is a new force on the scene, designed as an artistic playground for its members where they can push and pull each other in new directions. The results are eminently satisfying and it certainly will be intriguing to see what the Quartet provides its audiences next.
